Decided to do two sketches this time as I could not chose between them so thought I would do them both,
Had a lovely day yesterday, My friend came to see me and we went out for lunch, It was a lovely day and the weather was so kind to us, I took my friend to see an old tree at St Leonard's church Tortworth. I found this information from the website but the picture I took yesterday,
This page contains specific information about sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) '12906', which can be found in a meadow near St. Leonard's Church in Tortworth (county of Gloucestershire).
This tree is called "The Tortworth chestnut". A legend says that the Tortworth chestnut was planted in 800 AD. It sprang from a nut planted during the reign of King Egbert in 800 AD. Written records go back to the 12th century.
The tree is measured in 1988 by the Tree Register of the British Isles. It measured a girth of 11m 00cm at a height of 1.00 m. Measuring is very difficult because of a very thick branch at approximately 60 cm.
The old tree, it has wild garlic growing all around, and it looks lovely. |
St Leonards chuch. its lovely as we went and had a look inside, |
